movies!
so
Fahrenheit 911 comes out tomorrow. I'm pretty stoked. I've been reading a lot of reviews about this movie like, for instance,
the one Sean linked to the other day. Stuff like that is to be expected when a movie like this comes out ... he makes some good points, but misses just as many as he makes (i've
said all this already).
Well, anyway,
here's another review written by a guy I've actually hung out with before that basically sums up exactly how I feel about this movie.
Fahrenheit 9/11 must be viewed in the context of the Iraq occupation and the torrent of misleading claims that got us there. It must be viewed in the context of Rush Limbaugh repeating the charge that Hillary Clinton had Vince Foster murdered in Fort Marcy Park, or laughing off the exposure of Valerie Plame when, had this been a Democratic administration, he'd be calling every day for the traitor's head. It must be viewed in the context of Ann Coulter calling for the execution of people who disagree with her. It must be viewed in the context of another new documentary, the superb The Hunting of the President, that documents—irrefutably—the lengths to which the right went to destroy Bill Clinton. Moore might be a demagogue, but never—not even during Watergate—has a U.S. administration left itself so open to this kind of savaging.
... preach on David Edelstein.
read his review, it's good stuff. well ... his reviews are always pretty good. And he's a pretty entertaining dude in general.
The Hunting of the President
this is another movie i'm pretty stoked to see.
check the trailer out. I don't know if it's just the fact that I'm paying more attention to what's going on in the world these days or not, but it seriously seems like there is a HUGE backlash going on against "the right" right now. if you went and saw
The Corporation,
Supersize Me,
Fahrenheit 911 and
The Hunting of the President all in one week, you'd swear this whole country was on the brink of collapsing.
... I also want to see
Control Room, which looks like one of the more-than-superficially-interesting movies coming out that has something to do with the relationship between the middle east and the west. word.
as long as i'm talking all about movies and stuff. I might as well go back again and say "
WATCH THIS VIDEO." It's the one about the Carlyle Group. It's probably one of the most unnerving things you'll ever watch.
