Dear Richard D. James
thanks for bringing Aphex Twin into the world. you're a pretty righteous dude.

... ok, screw it. this is now a "20 albums you must own" post. these are just records listed, in no particular order, off the top of my head, right now ... and i'm not going to list stuff like Nirvana: Nevermind because, yes it's a 'must own', but everyone already DOES own it, so the point is moot.

Vaya is, in my opinion, the best ATDI release there is. the rest of their releases are great too ... especially in/casino/out and relationship of command, but there's something i like about Vaya better. it's probably the song "heliotrope" but, then again, maybe not.

Spoon is an amazing band. this is an amazing record. i know i said this like 5 minutes ago, but yeah.

Fugazi: Repeater is one of the best records ever released. i'd go so far as to say that, if given the choice between any led zeppelin record and this record, i'd choose this one. however, led zeppelin is still the greatest rock band ever. In On the Kill Taker is my number 2 pick of fugazi records. the rest are all pretty much equal, though rating and comparing fugazi records is sort of like having 8 houses and comparing their indoor pools.

perhaps it is sacrelige to like Kid A better than OK Computer, but screw you. comparing radiohead records is the same as comparing fugazi records is the same as comparing swimming pools in mansions. if you dont own at least 2 radiohead records you are not my friend.

this is a weird selection for a "must own" list, but how can a person possibly go wrong when you put Dan the Automator and Mike Patton on the same record? you can't. this is brilliance on an epic scale. i've only known one person who didn't like this record, and she is a whore.

>
i bought a lot of punk rock records back when i was a young lad, but i think this may have been the very first truly "hardcore" record i ever bought. if you can listen to this without at least some of it getting stuck in your head, you're probably some kind of "special" or deaf person.

if every record released was as good as abbey road there would be peace on earth, everyone would be rich and it would be sunny and 72 degrees every day. so fuck ricky martin.

this record is better than you remember ... or think, depending.

this is a weird one to throw in, but screw it, i love this record.

david bowie himself admits he's released some crapper albums. this isn't one of them. this has just about everything you'd ever want on a david bowie record.

duh.

At The Gates: Slaughter of the Soul -- i can't believe this is the only picture of this album i could find. the number of bands that rip this record off is not even countable.

Cave In: Tides of Tomorrow. Best Cave In release to date, but barely. Until Your Heart Stops is also a "must own" ... and i don't care what adam paysse says about comparing Cave In records.

yes i like yank crime better than the duct tape record, sue me.

Hot Snakes: Automatic Midnight. i had the good fortune to see this band live. this is the closest thing anyone will ever see to a Drive Like Jehu reunion ... and Gar Wood is a full fledged hotty ... i'm comfortable enough in my masculinity to say that.

Le Duh.

no explanation needed.

if you don't know morrissey, buy this first. It doesn't have all the best songs on it, but as a whole record it is utterly fantastic.

Outkast: southernplayalisticaddilacmuzik. if you like outkast and don't have this record, you don't really like outkast.

DJ Shadow: The Private Press. if he didnt let lateef talk all over that mashin' on the motorway song, this would be a perfect record.

i'm still missing some. comment and add some, it'll be fun.
