This has been quite an eventful weekend. I attended 5 parties over the course of 2 days. One of them was even at a really tranny kinda gay bar. I was taken there by a woman I work with on our way to a different party. It was .... interesting.

I also went to a party with a bunch of "sports fans." It was like watching dirtbag evolution with each beer opened. There was Mr. "I'm the cool guy. You know, the on with the dog." He was the super friendly cool dude of the party--at the beginning. At the end he was the dude who goes, "COOOOOOKE! Ok I'm ready for some coke. Who here's got coke?"

*Silence*

"O ... K ... Nobodies got coke."

*Weird moment of semi-akward-but-funny "We don't do coke" silence*

*In a very low and gravelly New York accent* "I gotta go to the bathroom. Watch the dog."

[Josh thinking to himself]
"Golly gee. I wonder if he just left to go do coke?"
[/Josh thinking to himself]

There was this other guy at that party too who at the beginning of the night seemed like the good-natured nice guy. You know, that guy who's in his early 30's and is super friendly to everyone as he's very obviously contemplating soon finding that special lady to settle down and have some good all american white picket fence kids with.

At the end of the night the other sports fans in attendance clearly sold him out and sort of back-handedly revealed that this is all a farce he has concocted to pick up women.

"So, do you think you've found the one tonight Graham?"

"Ha ha. No. Not yet. I'm thinking I'm about, oh, I'd say four away."

*Everyone within 15 feet quietly snickers at how our drunken-operator's game is quickly failing him*

*Heaviy accented French girl walks down the stairs and sits in the only empty seat next to him that he had strategically placed there earlier in the night*

"SO! Where ya from?"

Last night was the illustrious Maddi K's 22nd birthday party. (I have purposely imbellished there. How gentlemanly) One of the things I always do now when I go to parties and the conversation turns to music is ask whoever I'm talking to, "Do you play drums." It never works and mostly it's just a running joke between Kc and me. Last night, however, it was a bit different. I was shooting the shit with some random dude in the bathroom line and it turned out that, like me, he knew Maddi from Seattle. In addition to this he had lived in Tacoma and knew a whole lot about good music and successfully managed not to mention Nirvana within 15 seconds of the word Seattle being uttered. (This is a rare occurrence in and of itself here it seems).

A little while later I ran into him again outside. At some point the conversation turned to playing music and I asked the inevitable, "Do you play drums." Tossed in the middle of a story about the Capitol Theater or something, was the non chalant "Yeah."

Surprized, I said, "Wait, you play drums?!?"

Him: "Yeah"

Me: "Are you any good?"

Him: "Yeah, I'm pretty good I guess."

Me: "Wow. Awesome. Every party I go to, I ask whoever I'm talking to that knows anything about music or the Northwest if they play drums. It never works."

... Insert random other general band/touring discussion ...

Me: "So wait, what band were you in?"

Him: "Oh, I was in this band called Quicksand."

Me: "JESUS TITTYFUCKING CHRIST! YOU WERE IN QUICKSAND!"

Him: "Yeah .... Oh, and Seaweed"

Me: (!!! WTF !!!)

This is quite possibly the most bizarre and random thing to ever happen. I've jokingly asked no less than 100 people if they play drums in this city, the first person who's actually answered yes was in fucking Quicksand. Weird.

Obviously my next question was, "Do you want to be in a band?"

Ah. Good times.

Maddi gave Kc a shirt that has a bomb stenciled on the fron of it and which says, "I'm the bomb" in farci. Maddi is an amazing individual.

Wait. I'm sorry; Mahdis. The other spelling is no longer valid. Old habits are hard to break.
