During the hearing in Tampa, the chief lawyer for Ms. Schiavo's parents, Robert and Mary Schindler, ... said Ms. Schiavo's religious beliefs as a Roman Catholic were being infringed because Pope John Paul II has deemed it unacceptable for Catholics to refuse food and water.

The parents of Terri Schiavo asked a judge to allow the severely brain-damaged woman to divorce her husband -- even if she dies -- in one of a flurry of 11 new motions filed by the couple. In the divorce motion filed Monday, Bob and Mary Schindler accused Michael Schiavo of adultery and not acting in his wife's best interests.

Gov. Jeb Bush said he was grateful to Congress for passing a law but said he still wanted the Florida Legislature to pass a measure tightening the requirements for guardianship. Mr. Schiavo lives with a girlfriend with whom he has had two children, and Mr. Bush said that presented a conflict of interest.
"I think our state ought to change our laws to say in those circumstances, that that guardian needs to be changed," Mr. Bush said.

Jeb Bush insisted Monday that he has been faithful to his wife of 27 years and said rumors of an extramarital affair are false, hurtful and "sickening." ... His denial follows months of allegations that Bush had a sexual relationship with one of his appointees, Cynthia Henderson, head of the state Department of Management Services.
